Mama, I Wanna Make Rhythm

I've been working on "Woodland", a piece for two sopranos and piano. It's written to some wonderful text kindly supplied by Andrew Marsh; the piece evokes springtime at Hardcastle Crags, West Yorkshire.

Also I've recently finished "Mama, I Wanna Make Rhythm" for clarinet ensemble; no no... not the original but yes, reminiscent of Harry Roy and the swing era. More creepily, I've been dabbling with the supernatural with my piece "Poltergeist" for solo cello and CoMA ensemble, complete with EVP and poltergeist phenomena.

I'm about to embark on some pieces for a photographer friend, Rachel Low, creating some music to complement some of her photography. This should keep me busy for a while!

60x60 Pianoforte mix

So what's happened recently? I've had some compositions performed, one in Chicago for the 60x60 Pianoforte mix, and another, a piece for soprano and piano entitled "Fallen, Frozen"  will be performed by Dr Liana Valente at the Tuesday Music Club of Lakeland, 421 East Park Street, Lakeland, Florida (Tuesday, 12 March 2013 at 10:30 EDT if you're in the area). Nearer to home, Yorkshire Late Starters Strings seem to like my composition "Convergence" enough to have worked on it several times which is encouraging.

I've been writing a lot for composer competitions, it's a good way of getting motivated and finishing stuff - writing for real instruments too, particularly strings and piano. I'm getting to grips with Sibelius, I've put some exports on my SoundCloud page, along with some iPhone MusicStudio ideas I've been messing with.
